Shela possesses a Postgraduate Diploma Majoring in Special Education from University of Hong Kong (UHK). Her teaching career in Special Education started on January 2006 at Rainbow Project Learning Centre – an autism specific school at Hong Kong.

 

Being Rainbow Project’s Lead Teacher, she gained further experience and training in TEACCH approach of North Carolina (USA), PECS approach of Australia and United Kingdom, Language and Communication Skills programme, Coordination and Motor Skills programme, and Sensory Integration programme.

 

Shela’s concentrated area of practice at Rainbow Project was not only limited to children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder but she also trained children diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Down Syndrome and other related difficulties.

 

She recently relocated to Manila to serve Filipino children. Bringing back home not only her talents but also her 9 years worth of teaching experience. Starting April 2015, Shela is most pleased to run a programme as the Project Coordinator and Autism Consultant of Lighthouse Therapy and Education Centre.

“Cha” is a Registered Nurse since 2004 and have worked at St. Luke’s Medical Center before relocating at Hong Kong in 2007.

 

She is the first Filipino nurse to have been employed by one of Hong Kong’s premiere expatriate clinics – Central Health Medical Practice. She has worked closely with a British, Australian, and North American medical team until 2014 when she finally relocated back to Philippines with her family.

 

Cha is also a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI) with the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) and is trained by Mia Elmsäter herself, the pioneer of Infant Massage in Sweden. Cha is the only Filipino founding member of IAIM Hong Kong, and have served as their P.R.O. in 2009.

 

She considers her only child Noah, who is diagnosed with Autism – as her greatest accomplishment.

We serve education and therapy programmes for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Asperger’s syndrome, Down's Syndrome and other learning difficulties.

 

Our programmes are designed for children ages 3 to 12 years old.

 

Children are divided into two groups:

1. LITTLE SAILORS - Early Intervention Programme (EIP) ages 3 to 6 years old

2. CAPTAIN'S CREW - Primary Class (PC) ages 7 to 12 years old.

Our Team

The Lighthouse Coordinator and the team members encourage parents and the community to attend workshops and do volunteer work with groups that provide programmes for children with autism.

 

These give opportunities to everyone in gaining greater understanding and awareness of children with ASD. Our resources are readily accessible.

 

We are members of the Autism Society of the Philippines. They conduct various workshops, courses and talks related to ASD.
